Day 25

alternating current introduction. Equations read v= Vmax sin(2πf*t)

Showing that V still equals IR. But these values are instantaneous. to get meaningful values that one can use one needs to use RMS values.

equations for instantaneous values of V and I.

calculating true peak voltage that comes out of wall sockets.

derivation of Vrms in AC currents. Average voltage of  sin wave is always zero. So the RMS value allows us to get a meaningful value that we can use by first making all values positive by squaring them taking the average (which is 1/2) and taking the square root of that so that we are still using the origional scale.

equation for power

set up. only 100 Ohm  resistor is hooked up and voltage/current is being monitored.

readings. Current vs time / Voltage vs time

new graph is voltage vs current

Theoretical vaues for RMS are obtained by using Vmax and Imax from the graphs. Experimental is gained by using the multi-meter. It is understood that both values are experimental. It seemed appropriate at the time since one uses equations and the other is more direct. Also because we are comparing one with the other.

These graphs are adjusted. The voltage probes were connected the opposite, and so all the values were negative. This fixed our Current vs. Voltage graph also.

equation for current with a capacitor derivation

attempting the same derivation that was on the previous board, we just  needed to replace dV/dt with the derivative of Vmax sin(wt+phi) = Vmax w cos(wt+phi)

on the right we derived the voltage equation and obtained a reactance constant.

just showing that w can be replaced with 2πf

practicing using Xc to get a current.

derivation of inductance equation

Today we learned how inductors, resistors, and capacitors affect AC circuits

Day 26

* establishing the reactance of inductors, capacitors, and resistors. Also combining these to form a general reactance equation for a RLC series circuit. then just for a RC circuit.

The same equation except instead of Vrms, Vmax is substituted.

what would happen if the frequency was doubled. As R approaches zero the Irms doubles when it approaches infinite, it doesn't change.

Irms values with given R,q,C, and V max values

The table set up with practical values for measuring

our data. The stat function displays the V and Rmax values in the form of amplitude.

Final data w/ work

Us getting matching answers using this equation.

explanation of phase shift and resonant frequency using phasors.

A new circuit. The previous circuit only had a capacitor and a resistor.

The resonant frequency for our circuit. and a picture of our circuit.

Today we learned about how Capacitors, Inductors, and resistors affect AC circuits seperately.
